Colombina strives be one of the world’s most sustainable food companies

For the 8th year in a row, S&P's 2023 Corporate Sustainability Assessment, CSA, has named Colombina the 7th Best Food Company in Sustainable Practices.

The company also announced today that 100% of its electrical energy In Colombia is renewable.

Colombina, the Colomobian global food company, reaffirmed its leadership in sustainability with its announcement of its achievements in 2023 at its recent Shareholders' Meeting. The company outlined its management of its 6 Sustainable Priorities and its contribution to the nation’s economic and job growth.

 

For the 8th year in a row, S&P's 2023 Corporate Sustainability Assessment, CSA, has named Colombina the 7th Best Food Company in Sustainable Practices. This achievement reflects the company's constant commitment to generating value for its stakeholders - effecting a positive impact on the communities it operates in.

 

The highlights are:

 

  • - 61% of its food product-line is free of artificial colors, flavors or preservatives.

  • - 100% of its electrical energy in Colombia comes from renewable sources.

  • - 2015 to 2023, its carbon footprint and water consumption indicators per ton produced have been- reduced by 41% and 23%. respectively.

  • - 3 of its production plants boast the Zero Waste Certification - recognition of its efforts to properly dispose of its waste.

 

Employability and equal opportunities are one of our main objectives: we have generated over 8,200 jobs, of which 90% of are a direct hires. We are also very proud of being awarded for the second time, the Equipares Gold Seal recertification, making us the first company to obtain 100% compliance with the seal’s requirements in the history of this Colombian seal,” stated César Caicedo, president of the company.

 

In 2023, Colombina allocated $6.58 billion Colombian pesos in social initiatives, and through its Colombina Foundation, impacted over 10,300 people with its education, culture, sports and recreation programs. Furthermore, Colombina’s commitment to the national business fabric is evidenced by the fact that 92% of Colombina's suppliers are local or national, contributing significantly to the nation’s economic development.

 

Colombina's financial strength is reflected in its recent Fitch Rating outlook upgrade from “stable” to “positive”: an expectation of continued strengthening in Colombina's operational generation, supported by the strength of its brand, its geographical and portfolio diversification. These factors have consolidated the company's competitive position and have contributed to mitigating the impacts of adverse economic cycles.

• The Colombina Sauces and Preserves plant in Tuluá received the Certification of the Zero Waste System in the GOLD Category, awarded by ICONTEC and the Zero Waste Corporation Colombia with a classification of 95.5 out of 100. • With this certification, Colombina continues to implement a Management System that is part of its sustainability strategy, this is done as a contribution to the efficient management of solid waste and the strengthening of circular economy strategies.
