100% Renewable Energy, Circular Economy and Social Impact: Colombina’s Path Forward in Sustainability
April 01 2025
• Colombina’s operations in Colombia now run on 100% renewable electricity.
• All five of its local production plants hold the Zero Waste certification, reflecting a strong commitment to the circular economy.
Cali, April 1, 2025. Colombina continues to solidify its commitment to sustainability through tangible actions that generate positive environmental and social impact. As of today, 100% of the electricity used across its operations in Colombia comes from renewable sources—contributing meaningfully to the company’s carbon emissions reduction goals.
Thanks to these efforts and others, Colombina—proudly Colombian and present in over 80 markets—has remained for nine consecutive years among the global top 10 food companies with the best sustainability practices, according to S&P Global’s Corporate Sustainability Assessment in the Food category.
Aligned with its circular economy strategy, Colombina has implemented a robust waste management system that has positioned it as a pioneer in Zero Waste certification—currently held by all five of its production plants in Colombia. Since 2015, the company has reduced its carbon footprint per ton produced by 45%, and water consumption per ton by 27%.
Colombina’s sustainability agenda extends beyond environmental stewardship. In 2024, the company launched a financing program for smallholder farmers, allocating COP 300 million in flexible credit to support chili pepper cultivation—a key raw material for its Amazon brand. In partnership with the Government of Valle del Cauca, it also mobilized an additional COP 400 million fund to co-finance 20% of these agricultural loans.
In collaboration with USAID and the Colombina Foundation, the company implemented a cultural and educational initiative in Santander de Quilichao, Cauca. This program reached 300 participants, promoting gender equity and environmental awareness in the region.
As part of its commitment to shared value creation, in 2025 Colombina allocated COP 4 billion through the Works for Taxes mechanism to equip the San Antonio Hospital in Roldanillo, Valle del Cauca, with state-of-the-art biomedical technology. This investment aims to improve healthcare delivery by enhancing diagnostic capabilities, treatment quality, and hospitalization conditions in neighboring municipalities.
Colombina is also recognized for its commitment to workplace equity and inclusion. With more than 9,000 employees, the company continues to drive inclusive growth. Its efforts in gender equity have earned it the Gold Equipares Seal for a second consecutive year—a distinction granted to companies that actively promote gender equality.
“We are firm believers that sustainable development is the path to responsible growth. Despite the challenges of 2024, we reached USD 806 million in net sales and maintained a 14.1% EBITDA margin. Sustainability is the foundation of our operations, and we will continue to lead initiatives that build a better world,” stated César Caicedo.
Through these actions, Colombina continues to lead the way in sustainable business within the food industry, proving that innovation, economic growth, and a genuine commitment to people and planet can go hand in hand.
